Callistemon
Callistemon is the most forgiving flowering shrub in the Australian range: it takes poor soil, periodic waterlogging, coastal wind and hard renovation pruning, and it flowers heavily whatever the site does to it. Callistemon viminalis and its selections 'Wildfire' and 'Wilderness White' lead the range, with Callistemon salignus and Callistemon citrinus adding form and foliage variation.
Callistemon is one of the strongest nectar sources available and will hold bird activity through its flowering period, which is an argument for it near seating and against it over parking.
