Free draining ground in an arid climate is a double constraint, because water leaves the root zone quickly and there is little of it to begin with. Acacia, Ziziphus, Parkinsonia, Searsia pendulina, Tamarix aphylla, Populus euphratica, Lawsonia inermis, Olea chrysophylla and Lagerstroemia are the species that hold condition in it.
Free draining is also the condition most of these species actually prefer, and the commonest failure here is over irrigation on ground that never dries, not drought.
