The African and Arabian end of the arid palette, drawn from habitats that are drier and hotter than most of the Gulf and therefore have room to spare on the worst sites. Acacia leads it, with Ziziphus, Ficus vasta and Ficus sycomorus, Lawsonia inermis, Populus euphratica, Combretum, Capparis, Searsia pendulina and Olea chrysophylla.
These are the species to reach for when irrigation will be minimal, intermittent or saline, and when the site has no shelter at all. Many carry real habitat value alongside the tolerance.
