About this collection
Palms for Tropical Climates
The humid climate palm range, and the deepest part of the palm catalogue. Licuala and Dypsis lead it, with Areca, Ptychosperma, Archontophoenix, Chamaedorea, Livistona, Veitchia merrillii, Rhapis excelsa and Hyphaene covering canopy, mid storey and understorey positions.
Understorey palms such as Licuala, Rhapis and Chamaedorea will scorch badly if planted before the canopy above them exists, which is a sequencing problem rather than a species one. Plant the shade first. For interior schemes the same species appear in indoor plants for interior landscaping, and palms for tropical designs extends the list to frost free subtropical sites.
