A deliberately short list of shrubs that combine Middle East performance with genuinely fast establishment. Acacia farnesiana, Acacia saligna and Acacia ampliceps carry most of it, with Calotropis procera, Schinus terebinthifolia and Hibiscus tiliaceus 'Rubra' completing the range.
All six behave as small trees where water allows, so they will need heading back to stay shrub sized, and Acacia ampliceps in particular takes saline ground that would kill an ornamental planting.
