Drought Tolerant Ground Cover
Ground cover that closes the soil without a continuous irrigation supply, which on a Gulf project is often the difference between a bed that survives and one that is replanted every second year. Thymus decussatus, Anvillea garcini, Salvia deserti, Stachys aegyptiaca, Zilla spinosa and Teucrium oliverianum lead the arid natives, with Tulbaghia, Myoporum, Liriope, Ophiopogon, Juniperus and Pandorea for wider use.
Low water ground cover takes longer to close than irrigated planting, so it should be planted at higher density than the label suggests and given a full establishment season.
