Three months after its Abu Dhabi registration, the team's Nakheel joint venture submitted this prequalification for nursery and horticultural services to the Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC), the government developer then delivering Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi's flagship cultural district. This record rebuilds that submission.
What TDIC was buying
Saadiyat-era Abu Dhabi was commissioning landscapes at a pace its local nursery capacity could not feed. TDIC's prequalification sought partners who could prove, not promise, three capabilities: establishing and operating production nurseries in the Gulf climate, sourcing specification-grade plant material internationally, and managing the logistics that connect the two.
The case the submission made
- Nursery establishment credentials: the 35 hectare Fort Bonifacio production nursery built in the Philippines from 1997, the country's first to ISO 9002 standard, presented as the template for a UAE facility.
- Operating supply base: functioning nurseries and supply relationships across Australia, China and Thailand, including acclimatisation infrastructure for preparing stock for hot-climate destinations.
- Systems, not just plants: stock inventory reporting, delivery timeline management, quality control checkpoints and documented method statements for export preparation.
- Reference delivery: two decades of soft landscape supply and installation for clients including Disneyland Hong Kong and major Asian resort and civic projects.
Why this record matters
Alongside the Gulf capability statement of the same year, this document marks the moment our team's Asian delivery record was formally presented into the Middle East market, to one of its most exacting government clients. The supply-and-advisory model it describes, international sourcing feeding locally acclimatised stock under documented quality systems, went on to serve the UAE work recorded in the project register, including Saadiyat Island villa and cultural district supply in 2011.
