The Red Sea destination is development on a scale with few precedents: 26,500 square kilometres, 450 kilometres of coastline, an archipelago of 90 islands, powered by renewables. Landscape at that scale cannot be bought off the shelf. It has to be grown close to where it will be planted. This record sets down Ornatec's nursery design engagement for that coast.
The brief, in numbers
- One square kilometre of production nursery, designed from the ground up.
- 125,000 square metres of shade houses.
- 100,000 trees in production capacity.
- 175 tanker loads of water per day in early operation, until permanent desalination came online.
What the engagement drew on
The design work drew on decades of nursery construction and operation across Australia, China and the Gulf, and sat alongside presentations to NEOM on landscaping, nursery design and the selection and sourcing of trees. The model is consistent: grow locally, guide local teams, and reserve international supply for what local production cannot yet deliver.
