Panicum turgidumDesert Panic Grass

The Panicum turgidum, commonly known as the Desert Panic Grass or Thumam, is a tough perennial tussock grass of the Sahara, Arabia and Iran. It forms a dense, knee-high clump of stiff, jointed, pale blue-green culms that persist as standing cover through years without meaningful rain.

It is one of the most important native forage and sand-binding grasses in the region and it establishes readily from seed on open sand. Specifiers use it for desert restoration, dune stabilisation and native grassland character.
