Species overview

The Furcraea selloa, commonly known as the Wild Sisal, is a large agave-like rosette from Colombia and Venezuela, carrying long, arching, sword-shaped leaves with hooked teeth along the margins and no hard terminal spine. It develops a short trunk with age and throws a very tall branched flower panicle at maturity.

The absence of a terminal spine makes it markedly safer near circulation than a true agave of the same size, which is a real consideration in public landscape. It is used in resort and civic planting, large planters and tropical-character schemes.
