Lagerstroemia gives the longest summer flowering of any tree in the catalogue, along with smooth mottled bark and reliable autumn colour, which is an unusual amount of value from one genus. The range covers the Indian Summer selections 'Natchez' and 'Tuscarora', the tropical species Lagerstroemia speciosa, Lagerstroemia floribunda and Lagerstroemia loudonii, and Lagerstroemia indica for smaller positions.
Crepe myrtle flowers on new wood, so the flowering is set by the previous winter pruning, and the heavy topping often applied to it produces weak growth and fewer flowers rather than more.
