Before the giga-projects, before the Gulf joint ventures, there was a spiral-bound company profile printed in Queensland. This record rebuilds the original Ornatec Pty Ltd profile: the document that defined what the company was for, in language that has barely needed updating since.
The original pitch
The profile introduces Ornatec as "a group of experienced consultants offering technical support to landscape architects, landscape contractors, builders and developers, nurseries and the horticulture industry". Its founding observation still describes the industry today: designers and contractors were being asked to deliver complete landscape outcomes while the technical substance of the soft landscape, soils, plants, pests and disease in a constantly changing environment, sat outside their core expertise.
Ornatec's answer was to "project manage the horticultural aspects" of client projects: translating technical reports into understandable, practical recommendations so that landscapes succeeded long after handover.
