Exporting Hero and Character Trees: From Root Ball to Ship

Exporting Hero and Character Trees: From Root Ball to Ship

Archive record · Export method statement · 2020s · Middle East

A landmark landscape has to look established on the day it opens. That calls for hero and character trees: large, sculptural, often irregular specimens that give a place instant maturity. This record rebuilds the export sequence for those specimens from our own project photography, from root-ball preparation through to loading at the wharf.

The method, distilled

  • Root system rebuilt in advance: specimens are established in soil-less media on raised gravel mounds, forcing a dense, fibrous root system that travels well and satisfies import inspection.
  • Root development verified: balls are treated to stimulate new roots and are opened and checked before despatch, not after arrival.
  • Protection engineered per specimen: root balls shrink-wrapped, crowns bound and wrapped, foliage shaded for transit.
  • Freight matched to the tree: standard specimens travel in open-top containers; out-of-gauge figs and palms are cradled and shipped on deck, craned aboard one at a time.

Why this record matters

Every photograph in the gallery below is our own work. It is the difference between claiming an export capability and documenting one: the preparation windows, the materials and the handling that let a living specimen arrive in condition to establish. The same discipline stands behind every specimen in our hero tree range today.
