Pine Trees
The conifer and pine group, drawn together by common name as much as by botany. Pinus thunbergii and Pinus pinea are the coastal and Mediterranean species, Araucaria and Agathis the large scale emergent forms, and Podocarpus macrophyllus, Prumnopitys and Cupressus the finer, more clippable material.
Conifers do not recover from hard pruning the way broadleaf trees do, because most species will not reshoot from old wood, so the mature size has to be the specified size.
