Ornamental Trees
Ornamental is a judgement about form rather than a tolerance, and these are the trees specified because of how they look rather than what they survive. Ficus and Citrus for glossy structure, Bauhinia, Tabebuia and Cassia for flower, Olea and Podocarpus for silvered or fine textured foliage, and Barringtonia and Cordia sebestena where something less familiar is wanted.
Ornamental specimens are bought individually, so grade, symmetry and clear stem matter more than they do in mass planting, and two trees of the same species and size can be worth very different money. Where the specimen has to carry a view on its own, feature trees and architectural trees are the tighter lists, and slow growing ornamentals covers the species that hold their scale.
