About this collection

Trees for Tropical Climates

Tropical conditions relax the water constraint and tighten everything else: humidity raises fungal pressure, growth rates outrun planned spacing, and root systems reach services faster than temperate schedules assume. Ficus, Brachychiton, Flindersia, Terminalia, Plumeria and Barringtonia make up most of this range, with Cassia and Bauhinia for flower.

Set spacing against five year growth rather than mature dimensions in the tropics, because the maintenance problem arrives long before maturity does. Where the site is warm but frost free rather than truly tropical, subtropical landscaping trees is the better match, and fast growing trees identifies the species that will need the most room.
