Ground cover is the layer that decides whether a scheme looks maintained, because it closes the soil and suppresses the weeds that otherwise dominate every bed photograph. The range spans the tough structural species, Tulbaghia, Liriope, Ophiopogon and Myoporum, the flowering fillers including Russelia, Salvia and Zephyranthes, and the shade and interior foliage group of Calathea, Fittonia, Anthurium and Spathiphyllum.
Ground cover is specified by plants per square metre, and the number is set by how quickly the bed has to close rather than by the species, so agree the closure period before the quantities.
