About this collection

Flowering Trees

Flower is the part of a scheme a client remembers, and the part most likely to disappoint if the species was chosen from a photograph rather than a flowering calendar. Lagerstroemia carries the longest summer display here, Tabebuia impetiginosa and Bauhinia blakeana give the sharpest single flush, and Magnolia, Brachychiton, Peltophorum and Calliandra spread the season either side.

Ask when a species flowers at the destination latitude, not where it was grown, because the same tree can shift by two months across a route. Planning flowering calendars sets out how to build a scheme that has something in flower all year, and the seasonal flowering guides in the archive are the working papers behind it. For Gulf schedules, see flowering trees for Middle Eastern gardens. Two genera carry more of this range than any other and have their own lists: crepe myrtles and Cassia and Senna trees.
