About this collection

Boab Trees

Two species of Adansonia: the African baobab, Adansonia digitata, and the Australian boab, Adansonia gregorii. Both build the swollen water storing trunk that makes them among the most recognisable specimen trees available, and both are deciduous through the dry season.

A boab is bought for its trunk, so it needs open ground, a clear approach and light that models the form. Planted into a bed or against clutter, the whole point of the tree is lost. They also want free draining ground and resent wet feet. See architectural trees for the wider sculptural range and hero trees for the largest specimens Ornatec supplies.
