Azalea
Azaleas give the heaviest flowering display available from an evergreen shrub, and they do it in shade where very little else will. The range covers the larger Indica selections, 'Shiraz', 'Mistral', 'Exquisite', 'Only One Earth' and 'Dreamtime', alongside the smaller, denser Kurume forms such as 'Christmas Cheer'.
Azaleas need acid, free draining, organically rich soil and will fail quickly in alkaline ground or on saline irrigation, which rules out unamended Gulf soils.
