Azalea and Camellia carry the shaded positions, Callistemon, Leptospermum and Acacia the exposed ones, and Gardenia, Ixora, Carissa, Salvia, Lavandula, Rosa and Hydrangea fill the ornamental and courtyard work.
Flowering shrubs vary enormously in how long the display lasts, from a two week flush to nearly continuous, and a schedule built only on peak appearance will look empty for most of the year.
