Species overview

The Acacia gerrardii, or Red Thorn, is a medium-sized, hardy deciduous tree known for its striking reddish-brown bark, fine feathery foliage, and resilience in arid environments. Growing up to 8 to 12 metres, it features small, yellow puffball flowers in spring and summer, followed by flat, reddish seed pods. Its spiny branches and drought tolerance make it ideal for use in erosion control, wildlife habitats, and as a security planting.

Native to Africa and the Middle East, the Red Thorn is well-adapted to harsh climates and poor soils, thriving in challenging landscapes.
