About this collection
Trees with Vibrant New Growth
A strong flush of new growth gives a scheme a second season of colour without relying on flower, and in warm climates it can happen several times a year. Lagerstroemia, Magnolia, Syzygium, Olea, Prunus, Pyrus, Leptospermum, Melaleuca and Plumeria all put on a distinct and visible flush.
New growth is also the most vulnerable tissue on the plant, and it is what salt wind and low humidity damage first, so a species chosen for its flush needs shelter to keep it. On exposed ground the effect will be lost. For colour that holds through the year see trees with striking foliage, and park and recreational area trees for the same species in civic use.
