Acacia, Ziziphus spina christi and its relatives, Ficus vasta and Ficus sycomorus, Lawsonia inermis, Olea, Conocarpus, Terminalia, Tamarix aphylla and Aloe carry cultural as well as horticultural weight.
This palette suits enclosed, shaded, irrigated courtyard planting far better than open exposed ground, which is how it was traditionally used. Design the shade before the species list.
