Low Water Palms for Drought Areas
Palms adapted to genuinely dry habitat rather than simply surviving in one. Hyphaene thebaica and Phoenix dactylifera are the desert species proper, with Washingtonia, Copernicia, Livistona chinensis, Hyophorbe, Beaucarnea gracilis, Pritchardia martii, Veitchia merrillii, Dypsis and Dioon extending the range into low water ornamental work.
Most of these are slow growing, which is the reason to buy them at size, and it also means an establishment failure cannot be made up later in the programme. Give the first two seasons proper water.
