Evergreen shrubs are the structural layer of a planting scheme, the part that holds the shape when everything else is out of season. Camellia, Callistemon, Azalea, Syzygium, Leptospermum, Melaleuca, Rhaphiolepis, Pittosporum, Viburnum, Gardenia and Juniperus make up the working range.
Evergreen shrubs do most of the clipped work on a project, and the species that take clipping well are a much shorter list than the species that stay green, so confirm renovation behaviour before committing to a formal hedge.
