Mussaenda pubescens
Chinese Mussaenda
What looks like a white flower on Mussaenda pubescens is an enlarged sepal, and the actual flowers are the small golden stars set among them. The Chinese Mussaenda is a soft, scrambling shrub from southern China and Vietnam that carries this display from summer into autumn.
It is used in informal borders, understorey planting and on banks and slopes, where its loose habit suits a naturalistic rather than a clipped scheme.
