Buttonwood

Conocarpus erectus - Buttonwood

The Conocarpus erectus, or Buttonwood, is a versatile evergreen tree or shrub native to coastal regions of the Americas and West Africa. Renowned for its tolerance of saline and waterlogged soils, it grows up to 6 to 12 metres tall, with leathery, dark green leaves and small, inconspicuous button-like flower clusters. Its dense, spreading canopy makes it ideal for shade, windbreaks, and erosion control in coastal areas.

This hardy species thrives in challenging environments, making it a popular choice for landscaping in tropical and subtropical climates.
