Grass Tree

Xanthorrhoea australis - Grass Tree

The Xanthorrhoea australis, commonly known as the Grass Tree, is an iconic and slow-growing evergreen plant native to Australia. It is distinguished by its tufted, grass-like foliage, which forms dense crowns atop a thick, blackened trunk, often resulting from natural fire exposure. Mature plants can develop a tall flower spike covered with small, fragrant cream-coloured blossoms, which attract birds and insects. Growing up to 4 metres in height (including the flower spike), this hardy species is well-suited to arid and temperate landscapes.

Grass Trees are revered for their unique appearance, resilience, and cultural significance to Indigenous Australians.
