Vachellia sieberiana (Acacia sieberiana)

Paperbark Thorn

Vachellia sieberiana (Acacia sieberiana) - Paperbark Thorn

The Vachellia sieberiana, commonly known as the Paperbark Thorn and listed as Acacia sieberiana in Gulf tender documents, is a broad, flat-crowned African thorn tree with corky, flaking, pale yellow-brown bark. It carries fine bipinnate foliage on a wide horizontal frame, long straight white spines, and creamy white flowerheads in spring.

The wide crown on a clean trunk makes it one of the best true shade trees among the African acacias, and the thick corky bark gives it more fire and drought resilience than most. It is used for park shade, open avenue work and large-scale native-character planting.
