Cabbage Palm

Sabal palmetto - Cabbage Palm

The Sabal palmetto, or Cabbage Palm, is a hardy, evergreen palm tree native to the southeastern United States, including Florida and the coastal areas of the Carolinas. Known for its tall, unbranched trunk and graceful, fan-shaped fronds, it grows up to 20 metres in height and is highly valued for its resilience and low-maintenance nature. This iconic palm is often used in coastal and urban landscapes for its ability to tolerate salt, wind, and drought.

The Cabbage Palm's name comes from the edible terminal bud, which has a flavour similar to cabbage and has been used in traditional Southern cuisine.
