Miscanthus sinensis

Chinese Silver Grass

Miscanthus sinensis - Chinese Silver Grass

Miscanthus sinensis, the Chinese Silver Grass, is the structural grass that most others are measured against. Narrow arching leaves with a pale midrib build an upright clump through summer, then silvery to pink-bronze plumes rise above it in late summer and stand, bleaching to straw, right through winter.

It is planted in drifts for movement and texture, as a seasonal screen and in detention basins and roadside beds where a tall grass is wanted for very little maintenance.
