Blue Latan Palm

The Latania loddigesii, commonly known as the Blue Latan Palm, is a solitary fan palm endemic to Mauritius, carrying broad silver-blue costapalmate fronds on a slender, ringed grey trunk. Juvenile plants are marked with red on the petiole and leaf margin, fading to a uniform waxy blue with age.
It is a coastal palm by origin and takes salt wind and sandy soil without complaint, while asking for warmth all year. Designers use it in resort and waterfront landscapes where the blue frond colour is wanted at a smaller scale than a Bismarckia.
The Blue Latan Palm brings silver-blue frond colour to a coastal scheme at a scale that fits courtyards and pool surrounds.
